Steve, Scott and Brett are three mates who have come up from Mandurah for a couple of weeks fishing. The trio have been out catching a variety of species including yellowfin tuna, dolphin fish, northern blue tuna and a
honker long nose emperor. A photo would have been good, but apparently Steve was unable to work the camera when asked to take the photo…? The boys have given Steve a lot of grief, but they are having loads of fun. Surprisingly others staying at the caravan park have commented on there being ‘no fish about’ this week, but the boys are certainly on the right spots! They hope to catch a billfish and some GT’s on their trip as well.

The crabs have continued to show up in the gulf and despite many tourists being here over the Easter break, there still seems to be many blue manners about. One customer was even throwing nets from the beach and getting
plenty for a fresh feed. Others have been scooping them in the shallows, while a few people have reported muddies as well in the mangroves. Quite a few locals are quite sick of eating crabs! They are best eaten fresh and
don’t freeze well, so it’s good to see many people taking enough for a fresh feed only.
The monthly fishing competition was a little quiet in April for pictures, but we did manage to get this cracking shot of Nerida Baker with a whopping 12kg red emperor. Nerida was fishing with some friends in Coral Bay over
the Easter holidays. Using mulie for bait she caught this awesome red. Other entrants this last month included Kimberley Jongeling with an amazing 10kg golden trevally, however, the winner was Kye Venrooy with his
spectacular spangled emperor from the marina.

All pics can be viewed in store and all entrants go in to the draw for $700 worth of fishing gear at the end of the year. Kye wins a gift voucher in store, while other monies raised goes to Exmouth Volunteer Marine Rescue and the Exmouth Game Fishing Club.

I just got this text message through on my mobile this morning…I thought I would share it with you all…enjoy!

Hi Helen,

We just had a fabulous sunset whale watch cruise, with Ningaloo Whale Shark and Dive!! Highly recommended. Saw heaps of whales close up in a pod and also a mother teaching her calf to breach – unbelievable !!! Got burnt snorkelling at Turquoise Bay yesterday, had a fab time though. Kids and I felt like Nemo as we followed a loggerhead turtle swimming lazily while many slver fish cleaned its shell. Off to Coral Bay today with a heavy layer of sunscreen and tshirts…how attractive!! Lianne

I just love it when guests are having a great time in our wonderful Exmouth.

School Holidays – What’s left?

It is that time of year again, when the panic starts and all those families who missed out on accommodation in Exmouth last year, try to get some for this year.

So here is my update. We are completely sold out in all homes for July School Holidays 2010. All homes are full for July second half of the month with some dates in Frangipani still available. Patchy dates available for August onwards in all homes.

Still some good availability in our newest home Mandu Villa for August and September which wont last long. Prime dates for 2011 already booked and confirmed on this home.

There is also some September/October School Holiday dates availability in Frangipani, Turtle, Marlin, Ocean Breeze, and Mandu Villa. But dates are limited.

My advice is this…if you are locked into dates then you MUST book at least a minimum of 6-12 months in advance for the School Holiday dates. If you are able to be flexible then you can leave your planning a little later.

February is one of the BEST months to holiday in Exmouth on the Coral Coast. The Ningaloo Reef is crystal clear perfect, the beaches deserted, fishing pentiful, and the town is quiet.

Yes it is hot, but with all our homes fully airconditioned, and the cooling waters of the beach not far away, who cares!?

We are offering a free night with any booking of 4 nights or more for the month of February 2010. That is potentially a saving of nearly $200 a night in some homes.

Coral Bay or Exmouth?

Lately I have had conversations with potential guests enquiring as to whether they should base their Ningaloo Reef holiday experience in either Coral Bay or Exmouth. Two trains of thought here.

Yes Coral bay is gorgeous, and the reef is ‘just there’. Its a one street town and with that comes all the charm of a small remote community, on a glorious beach, in the best state in Australia.

But, because it is so small, there is little to no accommodation available. Only the very organised, booking many years in some cases for prime spots, have the opportunity to stay in Coral Bays’ very limited accommodation.

So if you are hell bent of basing your reef exploration in Coral Bay then BOOK EARLY, very early.

However, Exmouth may be another 150km away, but with a little less forward planning, you can find accommodation relatively easily. Obviously peak periods sell quickly, you may need to think ahead 6 months. But the choice is far greater than in Coral Bay.

You can also get to the reef very easily from Tantabiddi (38km from town) or Bundegi ( 13km from town) via the boat ramps.

Choice is everything. But planning your holiday often years in advance can prove tricky!

Skywest Does it Again!

What have they done?

Cheap flights to Exmouth. Now you can fly cheaply to Exmouth and have the holiday you want, without the 16 hour drive. Some still like the drive, and I admit to being one of these tortured souls. But if a quick few days in Exmouth on our beautiful Coral Coast is just what you need, then fly.

The cheap flights sell fast. So book now, and I mean it, they sell fast. $160 each way is great value.

Its about time I hear you say. Well yes, for too long it has been a “keen price”, but the masses revolted! Hence our cheap flights.

Thankyou Skywest Airlines for allowing us to holiday on our beautiful Ningaloo Reef coastline.

Ningaloo Reef Protected

A snippet of news on the ABC radio yesterday has left me wondering the implications of the proposal to nominate the Ningaloo Reef on our WA coastline for World Heritage Listing.

The Ningaloo Reef is 160km long and stretches south of Coral Bay north to Exmouth and the North West Cape. This stretch of coast is currently a protected Sanctuary Zone for all Marine life with strict limits on where fishing can occur.

How does World Heritage Listing change our use of the reef?

But with 70% of the worlds coral reef degrading rapidly, it is vital to save what we have left. Any protection is good protection.
