Jackson is one of our home owners sons. Jo and Steve are the owners of ’Marlin’. They LOVE to fish, and so does Jackson. Their other son Tyson is in charge of ’keeping them real’. Happy just to eat the fish. Well done Jackson.
The information below was emailed to me by his proud Mum.
Please find attached photo of Jackson Tatham, age 8, with his pending State, Australian and World small fry record of a 3.9kg Tuna Kawa Kawa (more commonly known as a ‘Mack Tuna’ on 3kg fishing line.
It was caught in the Exmouth Gulf on Friday 8th October from a 4.2m dinghy after a relatively easy fight of approx 15mins.
A big thankyou to Kurt Decker, weighmaster for EGFC, for making himself available to weigh and complete the necessary paperwork needed to submit for records and to his wife, Jo Decker, for her fabulous picture taking.

That fantastic verandah
Another of our home owners stories. This time Avril and Daan from Cobia – 20 Carpenter St, Exmouth.
In November 1999 as we were about to leave Exmouth we decided to have a look at what was available for sale.
We already owned a couple of villas in the Exmouth Villas Resort but felt very restricted living there. There were so many rules in the complex and dealing with a body corporate in a complex with 42 villas was very difficult.
So we found this house and could see that it had enormous potential as it just needed some TLC and a bit of imagination. Both of which we could conjure up between us.
That was in 1999 and since then we have turned this house into a low maintenance easy care perfect holiday home. We come here ourselves for 5 or 6 months every year….to escape the southern winters.
The polished jarrah floorboards give a lovely warm feel and from when you walk in the front door the house sort of wraps itself around you and says ‘Welcome…have a good time.’
The heart of the thouse is the verandah where it all happens…
If you want an afternoon snooze with a good book or when entertaining friends the verandah is perfect for a party as it has seating for 10 and a fridge to keep the drinks cold…what more could you wish for? Just outside the verandah is the barbecue and fish cleaning area with sink and hot and cold water.
When we are in residence we just about live on the verandah as it overlooks the tropical garden making it very private and has a lovely inside/outside atmosphere which just says relax…have fun.

We are getting quite a few interstate and international guests coming to stay in Exmouth at our great holiday houses. Some of the questions they are asking me with regards to the town, the Ningaloo Reef etc… I think I take for granted. So I am going to post the most common questions and answers:
Q. Will I need a car in Exmouth or are there buses that run around? A. You will need a car if you are planning on visiting the Ningaloo Reef and the ranges or gorges. You can however just use the services of the dive companies if you are planning on only going out with these guys. Could work out expensive, but they will pick you up from your door when you are booked with them. There are no bus services that run around. There are however charter buses.
Q. Is the beach walking distance from my accommodation? A. Unless you are staying in one of our Marina or beachfront homes then not really walking distance. In saying that you can easily walk to the beach it is about a 15min walk from the town centre. The town is situated back from the beach due to the occasional cyclone that comes through.
Q. What is the night life like? Are there any clubs or pubs? A. Definitely no clubs, but there are two pubs, The Potshot Tavern and Gracies Tavern. Both do good pub grub, but they are pretty laid back affairs. Nightime socialising is usually on the back verandas of the holiday homes for a quiet bevvy after a big day fishing, diving, snorkeling or lounging on the beach.
Hope that helps.

Originally we didn’t warm to the American Block Homes, but Tusk was different. The renovations were all done, including this huge back verandah, sliding doors from the lounge to the outside, and even this amazing extra room. We couldn’t believe how lucky we were. Now we are busy (as usual) renovating and getting the garden up to scratch.
We have given it a really retro modern finish, with funky 70′s replica furniture in leather, and modern lines with the linen and decore etc. Matt Gogoll has provided all the great underwater photography artwork on the walls. Me being an ex-chef you will notice there is ‘more than enough’ of all the commercial cookware etc that you could possibly need. Just can help myself!
We are just loving the new revamp that we did this September, including the two new airconditioners! We nearly died last January when the temperature hit 49deg and we had New Year’s Eve hangovers!! We have added a marri wine rack, new reticulation and obviously new furniture. Plus more stuff for the kitchen.
One day this home will be our home…not soon enough I am afraid…oh well.

Well the word is out, the Humpback whales are off the coast of Exmouth in their droves. The Ningaloo Marine Park is awash with humpbacks on their migratory run, seen frolicking in the waters of the Exmouth Gulf.
My sources also tell me that they were surrounded recently by a pod of humpback, mummy and baby included, when they were recently fishing off the Murion Islands this week. What a treat.
Your best vantage point is from your accommodation at ‘Humpback’. The owners were very sad to leave their loved home last week to make way for our first guests, who will currently have the privilege of sitting on their own beach at the house watching the whales just meters off the beach. Apparently they keep you up at night with their song…and love frolicking !!

It is that time of year again, when the panic starts and all those families who missed out on accommodation in Exmouth last year, try to get some for this year.
So here is my update. We are completely sold out in all homes for July School Holidays 2010. All homes are full for July second half of the month with some dates in Frangipani still available. Patchy dates available for August onwards in all homes.
Still some good availability in our newest home Mandu Villa for August and September which wont last long. Prime dates for 2011 already booked and confirmed on this home.
There is also some September/October School Holiday dates availability in Frangipani, Turtle, Marlin, Ocean Breeze, and Mandu Villa. But dates are limited.
My advice is this…if you are locked into dates then you MUST book at least a minimum of 6-12 months in advance for the School Holiday dates. If you are able to be flexible then you can leave your planning a little later.

I’ll get right to the point. The enthusiasm I have for the growth of our holiday service is gnawing away at me as I reluctantly turn away holiday makers unable to secure quality accommodation in Exmouth.
All of our wonderful homes have become perenial favourites, with re-bookings now occuring for 2011 from happy customers. We need more homes to offer our holiday makers.
We offer a different service to our guests and owners…that is…we actually offer a service! Personal old fashioned service. With real folk at the end of the line, offering advice and matching the perfect home to the perfect guest.
We involve our home owners in all aspects of their property bookings, encourage our owners to holiday as much as they like in their own homes and we keep the whole process open and honest.
Holiday Home Owners!! If you are looking for a different approach to how your holiday home is rented to our wonderful guests then please call me for a chat. We need more homes for all our 2011 enquiries now.

Some of our wonder homes just love visiting pets and some are best suited to guests only. There are some reasons for this.
Only homes that are fully fenced can accommodate dogs, that is understandable, nobody wants a wandering dog around the streets. So that rules out many homes in Exmouth!
It’s also only fair to expect that the pet is taken with you on all outings. The neighbours don’t appreciate barking dogs that are left at home all day bored in strange surroundings whilst their owners are out diving and fishing.
Some of our homes just want to keep their gardens in tact so therefore are not accepting of your visiting pooch.
But don’t worry with some special conditions met, Coral, Cobia, Marlin and Frangipani ‘might’ just allow your very old, very quiet, very outdoor, very well trained…(aren’t they all like this!!??) pet dog to stay in one of our wonderfull homes.
Tip: BOOK EARLY. The pet friendly holiday homes are booked out well in advance. Also remember that dogs are not permitted into the National Parks.
