How to beat the heat in Exmouth.

Ok, so we are now in the swing of summer. Here are my tips for you.

  • make it part of your habit. Do not leave the house without a water bottle and sip water regularly all day. You will sweat much more than usual and wont even notice it.
  • It obvious, but put a hat on as soon as you walk out the door, apart from the obvious sun implications, you will dehydrate from your scalp and you need to keep this as cool as possible.
  • Ankles swelling? Raise them at night, eat less salty foods, drink less alcohol and go for a walk in the ocean.
  • Eat foods high in water content like watermelon and salads.
  • If it is very hot in town, it will be much cooler on the other side of the peninsula. Head out of town and hit the beach.
  • Get in the water and cool down. Pack water, pack a hat, pack sunscreen, put on a rashie, set up a sunshade, get into the water. Cool your body temperature down immediately.
  • All too hard? The town pool is always there for a quick dip. Or even getting wet at any one of the Gulf beaches will do the trick, the water is much warmer than the beaches on the other side, but you are at least wet!
  • Use your airconditioners wisely. They are very efficient and will cool down the house quickly. I beg you not to leave them on all day and go out. It’s a waste of power and money and completely unnecessary. All it will do is raise the tariffs for next time as the owners get their power bills.  Please consider this.

The New Frangipani is now available -July School Holidays

Just a quick note to let you know that our not yet listed Frangipani (a new one! Not the one on Stokes Hughes st) is available for bookings and I still have week two of the July School Holiday available.

Three bedrooms and sleeping 5-6 maximum. Clean, loved and surrounded by gardens. Situated opposite a park, plenty of parking, cute as a button.

Only $150 a night. That’s cheaper than a campsite chalet or a motel room in Exmouth.

I have lots of photos but here is one to tempt you.

Some new homes joining us soon.

Our holiday home portfolio is ever changing and we sadly farewell Frangipani and Ocean Breeze.

Frangipani is on the market for sale and she is a little ripper of a house. She may be only one bedroom but she has plenty of space and if you are looking for a nice investment check out www.exmouthrealestate.com.au and ask for Leiza.

Ocean Breeze’s owners are ‘living the dream’ and they are moving to town in late May, we are very happy for them if not a little jealous!

But fear not as we will have some more properties to offer you very soon so watch this space! One home will even be ready for bookings in July…our only home still available for the July School Holidays.

Book now!

Want to take your dog on holiday with you?

Some of our lovely owners are dog owners and dog lovers also. They are happy for you to stay in their house with your pet…but there are conditions!!

* Do not leave the dog at home when you are out. It will only bark and the neighbours will get cranky and ring the Ranger. Not fair on the neighbours or the dog.
* Dogs are not allowed in the houses. The next guest may have allergies to pet hair, and the cleaners dont want to spend hours getting the place hair free. Just not allowed!
* If the dog gets out and runs amok around the streets and it picked up by the Ranger…you only have yourself to blame. Nothing to do with us or the owners.
* Dogs are not allowed in the Cape Range National Park but are welcome on most beaches other wise.
* Pick up all the doo doo before you leave and put in bags and put in bin. Not loose so that it can stink out the bins for the next guests.
* If the dog digs in the garden, you must rectify before you leave or we will charge you (at Exmouth rates!!) for a gardener to come in and replace plants and fix.
* Remember to give it more water than you usually do at home…it wont be used to the heat and will dehydrate just as easily as you will.

Look at Coral, Cobia and Marlin if you are interested in bringing your pet with you. All bookings are subject to the owners approval first…it’s not a given!

Our Exmouth House – Cobia

That fantastic verandah

Another of our home owners stories. This time Avril and Daan from Cobia – 20 Carpenter St, Exmouth.

In November 1999 as we were about to leave Exmouth we decided to have a look at what was available for sale.

We already owned a couple of villas in the Exmouth Villas Resort but felt very restricted living there. There were so many rules in the complex and dealing with a body corporate in a complex with 42 villas was very difficult.

So we found this house and could see that it had enormous potential as it just needed some TLC and a bit of imagination. Both of which we could conjure up between us.

That was in 1999 and since then we have turned this house into a low maintenance easy care perfect holiday home. We come here ourselves for  5 or 6 months every year….to escape the southern winters.

The polished jarrah floorboards give  a lovely warm feel and from when you walk in the front door the house sort of wraps itself around you and says ‘Welcome…have a good time.’

The heart of the thouse is the verandah where it all happens…

If you want an afternoon snooze with a good book or when entertaining friends the verandah is perfect for a party as it has seating for 10 and a fridge to keep the drinks cold…what more could you wish for? Just outside the verandah is the barbecue and fish cleaning area with sink and hot and cold water.

When we are in residence we just about live on the verandah as it overlooks the tropical garden making it very private and has a lovely inside/outside atmosphere which just says relax…have fun.

Eli Wolfe at Whalers Restaurant Exmouth

Anyone who comes to Exmouth knows of the fantastic food and service you get at Whalers, it is the stuff of legends, and the new menu is the best ever, packed with local seafood.  We have had guests staying in Coral and they have informed me that they had dinners planned all over town, but after one meal at Whalers, they cancelled all their other plans! Well done to Liz and Paul and the staff.

Enough platitudes! Geoff and I had a great night on Tuesday with the live music of Eli Wolfe. He is a one man guitar wizard and slowly driving down the coast in his Wicked Camper Van with Eli Wolfe artwork to match. Amazing guitar solos, blues rhythm, and all original work. A ‘must’  if you run into him on your travels.

Whalers have plenty of bands and solo artists coming to town throughout the year. check out their website www.whalersrestaurant.com.au for all the latest news. Make sure you book when you come to town 9949 2416.

Ningaloo Reef Holidays new service van

Paddy lives

Our new service van, is well our first service van! And you will see it working all over Exmouth.

It is a Volkswagon Caddy and we call it ‘Paddy’ due to my Irish heritage (and I also think it is funny calling a German van an Irish name…twisted humour!)

Our cleaners will be using it to call on our homes and I will be using it to call on you, whenever I am in town. So keep an eye out for it when you are with us on holiday and give us the nod!

In case you hadn’t guessed…our website is www.ningaloo.net

Skywest rules the skies…for how long?

As you all know, we at Ningaloo Reef Holidays have been anxiously awaiting the news regarding the second airline that is due to fly into Exmouth.

We have been eagerly tracking the reports and have learn’t today from our contact within the aviation sector that Skywest will reign supreme over the skies of Exmouth until February 28th. Tenders close this week for the second airline and we should have another carrier in the skies March 2011.

Tourists and locals have long found it difficult to access cheaper flights, or for that matter any available seats on flights for many years. This break in the monopoly will hopefully open up the skies to greater availability and will allow our tourists to fly with ease into Learmonth Airport, Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef.
