The prevalence of cyclones in the North West at this time of year, becomes more of a chore than anything else. Shade sails down, shade sails up…furniture in, furniture out. And with 20 holiday homes to manage here at Ningaloo Reef Holiday, that is alot of work. But with a great team around me, we get it all done with ease.
Things to pack when in a cyclone. The Emergency Kit!
- torches, batteries, candles, matches…anything that will light up the lock down dark house when power goes out.
- games and books, nothing worse than polite conversation for days on end with the dog.
- food and water, things that you can eat without refrigeration, its hard to get this one right as no one wants a house full of baked bean eaters.
- and grog…well you might as well have a party if you are locked down.
So with Cyclone Peta on her way to us by Friday, here’s hoping it is only wind and rain it provides, the tanks need filling and I kind of like a day indoors with a good book. Fingers crossed.

The preparation for the arrival of Cyclone Narelle was bigger than it’s impact on Exmouth. Many houses to pack up and many shade sails to take down. Much shopping for candles, torches, batteries. Extra groceries, more fuel. The list was endless. Then there were guests in residence who were not sure to stay or go. Packing up holidays and leaving town.
So we locked ourselves indoors, armed with extra grog and nibbles, and waited for it all to happen. And we waited. And waited.
After a bit of rain, some strong winds, and the odd tree limb down….it was a fizzer. But the ground has had a big drink, the rain water tanks are full and the sandbags are parked at the front door in readiness for our next attempt at cyclone preparation.
Glad we are all safe and sound. Now we just have to drink and eat up all those provisions!!

We are starting to get enquiries from our guests regarding where they can hire holiday items such as bikes, esky’s, sun umbrellas and shelters, fishing rods etc. So we have decided that we will stock those items and rent them to our holiday guests.
We are just building our stock so would love your feedback on what you think we should offer. Currently we are able to offer you a selection of eskys, beach umrellas and shelters, we have a few extra push bikes on offer, and of course we have baby cots and high chairs for your holiday house.
Great rates for our guests at Ningaloo Reef Holidays, but anyone can rent from us. It just makes the holiday easier when we have less to lug up in the car. Give me a call or email for very reasonable rates on offer. Also would appreciate your feedback on what is needed.

We love late bookings in our holiday homes in Exmouth. There are great bargains to be had. Not always the best idea to simply arrive into town to then look for accommodation, but very often we can easily put you up last minute in one of our great holiday homes.
Today I got an email at 7am from a Bunbury couple and their wee highland terrier, looking for 4 nights accommodation. Driftwood was available which is also pet friendly. They swung by the office at 13 Griffiths Way, I took their full payment, they followed me over to the house, and they are now out fishing from Bundegi Boat Ramp. Very simple process.
So whilst I dont recommend that you try this during school holidays or peak times, you can sometimes jag a last minute holiday house in Exmouth…with ease through Ningaloo Reef Holidays.

All our holiday homes in Exmouth are subject to minimum night stays. Each owner decides what they feel is appropriate to their home and their requirements. None of our homes have minimum night stay requirements of under 3 nights.
Homes accepting 3 nights or more – Coral, Turtle and Marlin
Homes accepting 4 nights or more – Amberjack, Frangipani, Driftwood, Oyster, Jurabi, Tusk.
Homes accepting 5 nights or more – Mandu Villa
Homes accepting 7 nights or more – Cobia and Seabird.
Please note that on the cheaper homes there is a loading for shorter night stays to cover the costs of the cleaning of the home (which is the same cost regardless of whether you stay 14 nights or 3 nights.) Remember these are houses the same size as a full home, they are not hotel rooms, so they take time to clean in between guests, hence the additional costs.
We cannot accept one or two night bookings due to the low tariffs we charge and the high costs to maintain a home.

Ok, so we are now in the swing of summer. Here are my tips for you.
- make it part of your habit. Do not leave the house without a water bottle and sip water regularly all day. You will sweat much more than usual and wont even notice it.
- It obvious, but put a hat on as soon as you walk out the door, apart from the obvious sun implications, you will dehydrate from your scalp and you need to keep this as cool as possible.
- Ankles swelling? Raise them at night, eat less salty foods, drink less alcohol and go for a walk in the ocean.
- Eat foods high in water content like watermelon and salads.
- If it is very hot in town, it will be much cooler on the other side of the peninsula. Head out of town and hit the beach.
- Get in the water and cool down. Pack water, pack a hat, pack sunscreen, put on a rashie, set up a sunshade, get into the water. Cool your body temperature down immediately.
- All too hard? The town pool is always there for a quick dip. Or even getting wet at any one of the Gulf beaches will do the trick, the water is much warmer than the beaches on the other side, but you are at least wet!
- Use your airconditioners wisely. They are very efficient and will cool down the house quickly. I beg you not to leave them on all day and go out. It’s a waste of power and money and completely unnecessary. All it will do is raise the tariffs for next time as the owners get their power bills. Please consider this.

Just a quick note to let you know that our not yet listed Frangipani (a new one! Not the one on Stokes Hughes st) is available for bookings and I still have week two of the July School Holiday available.
Three bedrooms and sleeping 5-6 maximum. Clean, loved and surrounded by gardens. Situated opposite a park, plenty of parking, cute as a button.
Only $150 a night. That’s cheaper than a campsite chalet or a motel room in Exmouth.
I have lots of photos but here is one to tempt you.

Our holiday home portfolio is ever changing and we sadly farewell Frangipani and Ocean Breeze.
Frangipani is on the market for sale and she is a little ripper of a house. She may be only one bedroom but she has plenty of space and if you are looking for a nice investment check out www.exmouthrealestate.com.au and ask for Leiza.
Ocean Breeze’s owners are ‘living the dream’ and they are moving to town in late May, we are very happy for them if not a little jealous!
But fear not as we will have some more properties to offer you very soon so watch this space! One home will even be ready for bookings in July…our only home still available for the July School Holidays.
Book now!

You only have a few more days to access the cheap airfares to Exmouth. The special deals finish March 30th, but they may extend that special offer time frame.
Tickets are $129 each way. For flights between 4th May – 22nd June, and 26th July – 14th September.
All other flights are either $149 or $179 each way on the current introductory cheaper flights. So book now.
We are very grateful for the second airline, it really opens up the availability of flights into Exmouth and gives our guests more opportunity to enjoy the wonders of the Ningaloo Reef.
