Back to Basics on Exmouth info

We are getting quite a few interstate and international guests coming to stay in Exmouth at our great holiday houses. Some of the questions they are asking me with regards to the town, the Ningaloo Reef etc… I think I take for granted. So I am going to post the most common questions and answers:

Q. Will I need a car in Exmouth or are there buses that run around? A. You will need a car if you are planning on visiting the Ningaloo Reef and the ranges or gorges. You can however just use the services of the dive companies if you are planning on only going out with these guys. Could work out expensive, but they will pick you up from your door when you are booked with them. There are no bus services that run around. There are however charter buses.

Q. Is the beach walking distance from my accommodation? A. Unless you are staying in one of our Marina or beachfront homes then not really walking distance. In saying that you can easily walk to the beach it is about a 15min walk from the town centre. The town is situated back from the beach due to the occasional cyclone that comes through.

Q. What is the night life like? Are there any clubs or pubs? A. Definitely no clubs, but there are two pubs, The Potshot Tavern and Gracies Tavern. Both do good pub grub, but they are pretty laid back affairs. Nightime socialising is usually on the back verandas of the holiday homes for a quiet bevvy after a big day fishing, diving, snorkeling or lounging on the beach.

Hope that helps.

Skywest rules the skies…for how long?

As you all know, we at Ningaloo Reef Holidays have been anxiously awaiting the news regarding the second airline that is due to fly into Exmouth.

We have been eagerly tracking the reports and have learn’t today from our contact within the aviation sector that Skywest will reign supreme over the skies of Exmouth until February 28th. Tenders close this week for the second airline and we should have another carrier in the skies March 2011.

Tourists and locals have long found it difficult to access cheaper flights, or for that matter any available seats on flights for many years. This break in the monopoly will hopefully open up the skies to greater availability and will allow our tourists to fly with ease into Learmonth Airport, Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef.

Skywest Deals

Flights to Exmouth and Learmonth Airport with Skywest Airlines are plenty thankfully. Two flights in and out of Exmouth daily, mainly driven by the Fly in Fly out (FIFO) community working on the rigs off the coastline.

But the flights can often be costly, especially if you book ‘last minute’. My advise to you is to make the most of the cheap flights when they come out. Like they are right now! Some flights are half price.

So plan ahead. Book your cheap Skywest flights now www.skywest.com.au and book your holiday home www.ningaloo.net whilst you are at it. Some prime dates for flights and accommodation are already booked out for 2010, so hop to it!

Its time to get organised.

News Flash!! Skywest stays.

Fresh off the press readers…Skywest Airlines has maintained its monopoly in the skys for the North West run to Learmonth for the next 12 months.

I personally was looking forward to a little competition in the blue skys of the Pilbara. Rumour had it Virgin Blue may have contested the highly regulated route north. Alas no.

However Skywest do a stirling job and if there could just be a few more flights on the weekend at affordable prices I am sure we would all be alot happier with the monopoly extension.

Phil D’Costa phil.dcosta@dpi.wa.gov.au is the Manager for Aviation Policy with the Department of Infrastructure, he is the man to contact should you wish to make a comment either way regarding the 12 month extension. Or drop us a line at www.ningaloo.net we love your feedback also.
